Design A Website Without Special Computer Knowledge

by on May 21, 2008

These days having your own website is as common as owning a cell phone or an MP3 player. The difference is that it is harder to get a website since they have to be created. Everyone from very large corporations down to small businesses and families are creating their own websites. They are a good means of advertising, making contacts and providing information.

In the past, the only way to design a website was to learn a special code called “HTML” which stands for “hypertext markup language.” It is a way of telling a computer server how to arrange text and pictures and other features on a web page and it formats text as well. Other HTML code allows the use of links and functions such as shopping carts and e-mail links.

Until recently to know how to design a web site meant knowing a lot of complicated HTML code in addition to getting a domain name and renting space on a web server, but things have really changed. Many of the companies that sell web space have simple templates that make it possible to design a website without knowing any HTML at all!

Loads of ISP’s and other web services such as forums offer free web space and have easy to use formats to set up a site. The templates are much like a “paint by number” kit since you just type in boxes and the template takes care of the rest. Many offer graphics and ways to add chat rooms, music and even videos.

Design a website templates are fairly easy to find. Many domain name and server companies offer their own, with no extra charge beyond the normal cost for rental or name changes. And, if you find yourself lacking confidence in your website creation abilities, many companies even offer tech help for their users. What’s there to be afraid of?

Another option to design a website is to purchase special software to create web pages. There are many brands with a wide range of prices depending on how complicated a site you want or need. While they may be more complex and more versatile than many of the free templates, they still do not require you to learn code to be able to design a web site. Using one of these options, anyone who really wants a website can have one fairly simply and often in a very short time.

Not so long ago a big part of knowing how to design a web site was learning how to write hypertext markup language, or HTML. The code can often be confusing, and for the amateur it was very difficult to design a website that looked professional. Fortunately, times have changed and there are much easier alternatives. One is to purchase a software program to help you build a site without any coding knowledge. Even easier is to use a template. Many site hosting companies and even Internet service providers offer easy to use templates, allowing even a novice designer to produce an attractive web site.
