HP Color LaserJet 5100tn Printer – Take A Glance At This Printer

There are many printers that can perform multiple tasks, but very few perform specific tasks to an exceptional degree. The HP LaserJet 5100tn printer can serve several purposes, but its focus is extreme resolution. Developed for CAD, the 5100tn brings a powerful precision tool to your desktop, with the exceptional clarity enhanced by the HP LaserJet 5100tn toner.

Its resources seem moderate, as it bears a 300 MHz CPU and a relatively weak 16 MB memory cache (expandable to 192 MB if so desired). It is capable of printing a modest 21 pages per minute, and its workload capacity tops out at 65,000 pages per month. Where this printer shines, however, is its ProRes 1200 technology, allowing a 1200 x 1200 dpi print quality to produce even more exquisite and accurate detail than usual.

The 5100tn is capable of working with several types of media. Letter, executive, legal, and tabloid formats are supported, and number 10 envelopes are a breeze. Pre-punched, bonded, colored, rough, vellum, preprinted, and recycled medias can be used without issues. Custom sizes can be configured from 3″ x 5″ to 12.28″ x 18.5″ if they fall into the above media types.

The printer is rather large, holding dimensions of 18.7″ width, 25″ breadth, and 18.6″ height. It checks in at a moderate weight of 48.7 lbs, making it heavy enough to keep its position but light enough to be maneuvered if necessary. Its tall stature can make desktop printing difficult. It is best positioned next to the desk or on a low table.

The main form of connectivity for this printer is the HP WP110 Internal Wireless Print Server, allowing it to remotely act as a printer for any allowed PC on the network. If necessary, the printer also carries an industry-standard IEEE 1824-compliant parallel port as well as a Connectivity Card for Serial, LocalTalk, and USB connectivity. If hardwired in any of these manners, EIO internal print servers can be used.

Multiple accessories are included with the retail purchase of the 5100tn. Necessary power cables, a free 10,000-page print cartridge, a 100-sheet multipurpose tray, a 250-sheet feeder tray, a hard copy User’s Guide, a control panel overlay, and a CD-ROM containing useful printer software as well as a digital copy of the manual. If necessary, the overlay can be printed for a language other than English.

As this printer model has been discontinued by HP, finding a new retail version can be difficult. Refurbished versions are more readily available, pricing around $600. While similar printers can prove much cheaper, it would be difficult to find one with the accuracy and detail of the 5100tn, and as the cliché goes, “You get what you pay for”.

The HP LaserJet 5100tn is an average printer in many respects if you just look at the surface, but CAD professionals and other designers have respected its attention to detail for years as it is very important in their jobs to get the details right. This is a specialized printer for specialized goals. If you simply need a multipurpose, generic print solution, it may not be for you, but if accuracy is your focus, the 5100tn might be just what you need.

The accuracy would not be possible without HP LaserJet 5100tn toner, of course, however the reliability of HP toner should not be a surprise to anyone who knows this brand. With such workability available, the cartridges is the final step for precisely clear prints that showcase your style.
