Lexmark Optra E – A Step In The Right Direction

If you’re thinking about Lexmark Optra e – Lexmark Optra e toner then you may be out of luck. The Optra e is currently discontinued and not available for purchase in stores, or from the manufacturer’s website. This printer was made by the Lexmark Company and was one of their mass market models. They offer a good line of newer models though so don’t fret, you can still buy a printer.

Laser printers are different from normal inkjet printers because they use an optical laser to print. The laser projects an image of what’s to be printed onto a selenium covered, rotating drum. The drum is charged to pick up the toner. Then it prints the image via direct contact with the paper, and heat. It is more expensive than inkjet, but more efficient as well.

There are some dangers to this however. Because of the extensive use of electrical components there is a risk of severe electric shock. So unless you are certified in laser printer repair don’t go messing around in its insides. Although there are circuit breakers, and protection locks so you can touch the outside without worry.

One other hazard from these printers is gases. During the printing process a laser printer can give off small amounts of gases that can form ozone, and nitrogen oxides. Now under normal circumstances this is not a problem as most offices have proper ventilation. Not to mention the fact that the printer has to be working for a long time for these gases to build up.

Their bigger cousins however do need plenty of ventilation. Most businesses that use them have carbon filters in the ventilation system to catch, and filter out the gases. Again this is not harmful if handled properly. Most of the time however there are no repercussions unless you shut the printer up in a closet and turn it on for 10 hours. That might case enough of the gases to build up to cause a health risk, but only in rare cases.

Despite the risks involved Lexmark’s printers are very safe, and efficient. The company is one of the prime examples of printer manufacturing, and relies upon the safety, and reliability of its products. Lexmark ships products all over the world from the America’s, to Asia, and Europe. In addition to printers they also offer an extensive lineup of other products. At last count they employed over 13000 people worldwide.

The toner used in a laser printer is pretty much the same as the toner in a regular printer. Essentially ink in a box, the little cartridges are essential to printer operation. After all no ink, no images printed. Most toner can be bought at any retail store, or ordered from the manufacturer in bulk if you need a lot of it at once.

In closing you may be unable to buy the Lexmark Optra e anymore. However you can still get the Lexmark Toner relatively easy online, and in some stores. Lexmark also has information on their website for ordering assistance. They also have technical support, and driver downloads available.
