Obtaining A US Passport

Getting a pasport can be an exciting time in a person’s life. By holding this document, a person has the ability to travel to many places around the world knowing that they will be able to safely return to the United States of America as they wish. There are many important steps to take when filling out the initial application for the book and the card.

Process

Putting together all of the papers and documents that will be requested along with the application is an easy way to ease the application process. When you come prepared for your application with the agency, you are promoting speedy processing times and protecting yourself against errors. When you have your passport at the time that you need it, your travel plans will be more enjoyable. This process is a little different if you’re trying to renew passports.

Agency

When an applicant goes into the application office, they will need to provide evidence that they are a United States of America citizen. Proving citizenship can be done in a number of ways. Using primary evidence to as proof is desired. These pieces of primary evidence include naturalization papers, a certified birth certificate or a previously issued and undamaged passport.

Birth Documents

Secondary evidence of United States citizenship varies. There are five different categories of secondary options that people can choose from. These five categories include early public records, delayed birth certificates, letter of no record, a birth affidavit and foreign birth documents.

Forms

After the applicant has complied all of the necessary identification documents that will be asked of them, it is time to move on to the actual application. The United States passport application is also known as Form DS-11. There are two ways to complete Form DS-11, either on the government’s website, or by hand in the application office. Basic identification information will be asked on the form. The basic identification information includes name, contact information and a physical description of the applicant.

Proper ID

Once the form DS-11, the application form, has been completed, it must be returned to the agency. Bring the proper identification with you when applying in person. The acceptable forms of identification are a state identification card or a valid driver’s license, a previously issued passport that has not suffered from any damage, a current military or governmental identification car, or a certificate of naturalization.

Fees

To expedite the process, a person’s application needs to be combined with the appropriate fees. In 2011, the price for an adult care and book costs one hundred sixty dollars. This figure comes from the execution fee costing twenty-five dollars added to the application fee which is one hundred and forty dollars.

Photos

A photo is required with every application. The requirements for the photo are simple. The pictures must be on quality color photo paper and the applicant’s face should be big enough to identify.

Getting a new passport will enable you to travel in and out of the country. You will be able to open your mind to new cultures. Traveling requires a passport so don’t delay this process. This process is a little different if you’re trying to renew US online passport.
