The Samsung CLX 3160N Printer does more than just provide you the ability to print in B/W or with Samsung CLX-3160 color toner. Within one enclosure, it also works as a scanner, copier and fax machine. Everything is contained inside its body measuring 18.3 inches x 16.9 inches x 19.1 inches (W x D x H). Attachment to a PC is done by means of a USB port, although it’s also network-ready for use within a workgroup.

As a laser printer, it’s fast enough to churn out 16 monochrome pages per minute. That’s 4 pages per minute when handling color printing tasks. Maximum resolution applicable for both tasks is 2400 x 600 dots per inch. This machine ships with starter toner cartridges. Black toner can yield as much as 1500 pages. The others (yellow, cyan and magenta) each can yield as much as 700 pages.

Standard media handling capacity is up to 150 sheets, courtesy of the single paper cassette available. The tray can be configured to handle a variety of media sizes. Speaking of media sizes, the machine can work on anything which measures from 3 inches x 5 inches to 8.5 inches x 14 inches. Compatible media types include plain paper, cards, transparencies, envelopes and labels. An optional 250-sheet capacity paper tray may be attached for increased media handling requirements.

There’s an A4 sized flatbed scanner on top which can provide an interpolated resolution of 4800 x 4800 dots per inch. In front of the machine is a USB port, which comes in handy when scanning. That’s because you can directly save the scanned document to a USB flash drive. But it’s also possible to directly save it to the PC’s hard drive or attach to an e-mail. Scan to network is usable if the CLX 3160N is connected to a workgroup.

Working as a copier, it packs in the same speed as that of the printer function when working on color and monochrome documents. However, the maximum resolution which can be used is 1200 x 1200 dots per inch. Document enlargement is up to 400 percent, while document reduction is up to 25 percent. You may use either the flatbed scanner or the automatic document feeder, and make a max of 99 copies.

Both monochrome and color faxing is possible here. Inbuilt modem is capable of yielding transmission speeds of up to 33.6 Kbps. Fax resolutions available are 200 x 200 and 300 x 300 dots per inch. As much as 320 pages can be stored on the available fax memory. While no handset is available, dedicated buttons for faxing on the control panel are present for accessing the address book, quick-dial numbers, and others.

Well laid out, the control panel makes the operation of this 4-in-one machine a breeze. Other than faxing, there are also dedicated buttons for copying, scanning and of course printing. Available USB port on the front panel may also be used for direct printing of files on a USB flash drive or digital camera. A total of 128MB RAM already comes installed. There’s support for an assortment of operating systems.

The Samsung CLX 3160N Printer w/ Samsung toners has a monthly duty cycle of 24200 pages. With a weight of 45.2 pounds, it’s best to have a dedicated spot for it at the office. Now, the tools for carrying out basic office tasks can be found in one compact and easy-to-use machine. With this performer around, there’s one solution for your printing, copying, scanning and faxing needs.
