Santiago – Tall Skyscrapers And Gorgeous Parks

by erin on July 3, 2011

Santiago, Chile is a city that is rapidly growing and isn’t slowing down. Emerging as one of South America’s most prominent cities, Santiago is a hub for food, fashion, culture, and urban city life. The city itself is beautiful seated at the bottom of the Andes Mountains, and as it continues to grow, so does its popularity as a prominent vacation destination. If your travel plans are taking you to Santiago or any foreign destination in the future, you will need to have a passport. Passport expedite service can get you one.

Online Services

Thanks to online passport service, an alternative to the usual method, getting a passport is infinitely easier. While you’d generally have to wait 8-14 weeks for your passport to arrive, you can instead pick when you’d like your passport delivered. This also means you don’t have to drive anywhere, wait in any lines, and then fill out a confusing form because it’s all online and very straight-forward so you don’t have to waste any time. Other services are available too, including United States passport renewal.

Large Cities

Whenever anyone travels to a large city, a good way to spend some time is by just exploring. For a fun and efficient way to explore Santiago, rent a bicycle. There are rental places around town, and they can help you get to know the city a little better.

Parque Metropolitano

Be sure to visit the Parque Metropolitano. This park in Santiago is even bigger than Central Park in New York City, and it’s a great place to escape the bustle for a little. Recently, it has received a budget to put in additional botanical gardens, further expand the zoo inside the park, and build a cable car to take people to San Cristobal Hill. This hill, apart from providing breathtaking views of the city, is where you can see the famous 70+ foot statue of the Virgin Mary, as well as a pretty church. Also be sure to visit the Parque Forestal, another gorgeous park, even though it’s not as big as the Parque Metropolitano. In the park are the National Museum of Fine Arts and Modern Art Museum.

Landmark Experiences

A landmark you should really try to experience is the colorful home of the Nobel Award Wining Pablo Neruda, La Chascona. Once you visit you’ll see why it’s so popular. The house and its gardens are tranquil and beautiful. Inside, you’ll see Neruda’s ample library, a secret passageway, lots of quirky items collected by Neruda, and art created for him by his friends. Be sure to explore the quaint cafes, nice restaurants, and fascinating stores in the neighborhood where La Chascona is located.

Interesting History

Visiting the Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino will give you an idea of Santiago’s very interesting history. South America’s history goes way back before cities like Santiago started being built, and the museum shows you artifacts from the Olmec, Inca, and Maya civilizations that lived in these areas during that time. Don’t miss out on the Andean mummy, a mummy older than those found in Egypt.

Unique Culture

You can definitely expect to experience real city life while in Santiago, but you’ll also experience the culture, history, and nature that makes the city so unique. Just be sure to have your passport secured before hand. Give passport expedite service a go. No matter if you need your first passport, a United States passport renewal, or something else, they can help you.
