Overall features- The Sharp JX 9460 laser printer using Sharp JX 9460 Toner boasts with high quality prints at a extremely slow rate of maximum 6 pages per minute at 300 dpi resolutions. Both portrait and landscape page orientation options are available. A 250 sheet paper cassette comes standard with your purchase plus a manual feed slot for unconventional paper, transparencies, film, labels and envelopes. The printer also has five emulations as well as Epson FX 80, IBM Proprinter and IBM Graphics Printer extra emulations. 1.0 MB Random Access Memory comes with the printer.

Interfacing options- Unfortunately, only a very outdated connectivity option is available in the form of a Parallel port. This makes the printer highly unappealing as USB interfacing is the in-thing, with most computers not even accepting parallel ports anymore.
Optional extra’s- The printer has some optional extra’s available such as an envelope and paper cassettes, expansion memory, font cards, PostScript Emulation board and interface boards. These extra’s are really not a necessity if you do standard, everyday print jobs.
Control Panel- The control panel is not the most user-friendly one on the market with lost of buttons and lights to indicate status and to select print options. Please remember to set the printer to offline status before using any of the function keys. Some key’s have dual functions depending on the duration of time the key is pressed. Error light, lights up when any error occurs, online light when printer is online and ready to receive data. Manual light indicated manual feed mode and last but not least Data light blinks in case of printer waiting for feed command.
Power save mode- The printer comes with fantastic power saving mode. This will be your default setting upon setup with an option to turn it off completely. Should the printer receive no data from the connecting computer or no key is pushed for specific pre-set time the printer will slip into the power save mode. The purpose of the feature is to reduce power consumption by reducing fusing unit temperatures.
Paper sizes- Paper sizes accepted by the machine are very limited to A4, letter, envelope, label, transparency and legal. Compatible envelope sizes are International DL, C5, Business and Monarch. Do not use envelopes with windows, strings, metal tabs, snaps or other attachments as it can possibly damage the printer. It is important to use only transparencies recommended by the manufacturer and remember to set your density accordingly.
Font cards- Font cards provide fonts that do not come standard with your printer. This credit card sized card is inserted in a special card slot on the right card side of the printer. Please make sure that the card is inserted or removed while online and data lights are off and no prints are being produced. Should the card be inserted while lights are lit erratic prints and hardware errors may occur.
Toner-The Sharp Toner yields approximately 3 000 copies at a retail price of between US$ 199.00 and US$89.00. The machine is a bargain in terms of quality but a loss when it comes to the old fashioned technology employed.
