Introduced to the market in 2003 but no longer being manufactured, the Sharp UX-CD 600 Communications Center with Sharp UX-CD 600 Toner is what you wanted if you were looking for a combination fax machine, text-only copy machine, two-line expandable multi-user phone console and answering machine.

The unit was targeted at the SOHO market, with the emphasis on the HO portion of that particular acronym (Home Office). Several thousand UX-CD 600 Communications Centers are still in daily operation, so Sharp UX-CD 600 Toner is still available, either from Sharp or from non-OEM suppliers of toner.
The copier function can be set to run up to 99 copies. This is somewhat strange considering that the paper tray can only handle half that amount. Copy quality at 392 lines per inch resolution is acceptable. Some users find the 50 sheet maximum input paper tray to be too small.
It has an automatic feed tray that can handle documents up to 10 pages in length and either letter size or legal size paper. The fax printer is also what works as the copier. This is not a photocopier. It is for text and uses the same toner cartridge as the fax machine component. With 448 KB of RAM, the fax machine stores up to 24 pages of incoming data. The fax function prints at 6 seconds per page thanks to a 14,400 bps modem.
The Sharp UX-CD 600 Communications Center with Sharp UX-CD 600 Toner comes with two phones and can expand to handle up to eight. The primary line is the corded handset on the communications center console. A cordless handset with its own remote charger is included. The charger is separate from the console, so the second line can service a separate workstation. The product documentation maintains the center can service as many as eight additional lines.
The cordless phone system integrated with the Sharp UX-CD 600 Communications Center is 2.4 GHz. If expanding the system, all added cordless phone sets must also be spread spectrum digital 2.4 GHz models. The one they include has a great range. Users report it operates with no drop out in clarity at distances of 75 and 80 feet. Like most high quality cordless phones with portable chargers, the handset can deliver 8 hours of talk time. It can also hold a charge when off the cradle for up to two days. The low battery light on the handset is nice.
The Sharp UX-CD 600 Communications Center is compatible with Caller ID and Call Waiting services if you subscribe to them from your service provider. There is also a duplex speaker in the base, allowing you to communicate hands free when using the base station handset. Conference calling is not something that this console enables and, as far as I can determine, it can’t handle 3 Way Calling either. This is a major disappointment for most prospective buyers.
The Sharp UX-CD 600 Communications Center fax and copier functions depend on a uses Sharp Toner cartridge. This cartridge is available from Sharp and from most after-market cartridge suppliers.
