Price at around $199 online, the HP LaserJet 3015 printer, along with the HP LaserJet print cartridge Q2612A, is a very affordable all-in-one device. It can scan, fax, copy, and print. It is able to provide functionality at a price that rivals all its counterparts. We will be rating each of the device’s functions and see if it is able to stack up to other laser printers out there.
The first thing we are going to look at is the printing speed. This HP printer can finish 16 pages per minute making it a good device for a small office. With a monthly cycle of 7000 pages, the device can easily handle the printing needs of 2 or 3 people. The device has a footprint of 16.8 x 18.5 inches and weighs around 20.9 lbs. Its compact size makes it a perfect machine for small offices.
Like other multifunctional printers with a fax machine, this machine uses a vertical feed scanner. This design makes it a more affordable, but scanning bounded pages like in magazines and books is going to be difficult. The bottom tray can take 150 sheets of paper with a sheet for envelopes and heavy paper stock.
The top part of the machine can be popped open to expose the toner cartridge or image drum. Each of the image drums cost up to $70 and it can print 2000 pages. This means each page can cost a hefty 3.5 cents, while other laser printers in its class do it for 2 cents per page. But finding less expensive compatible toner is easy online.
As for its connectivity, it uses a USB 2.0 port and a parallel port. For its faxing capability, it uses a telephone jack that can be plugged into it readily. The control panel is clear cut and simple to use. Each of the buttons is segregated according to its function. It is equipped with a two-line Liquid Crystal Display that has arrows on its side for the menus.
The HP LaserJet 3015 printer has 32 MB memory that is able to store 250 monochrome fax pages. It also has an HTML viewer that can monitor the printer’s status remotely from the PC. This feature makes it easy to add numbers to the printer’s phonebook.
Printing at a rate of 12.4 pages per minute for text, this makes it very competitive against other laser printers in its class. As for graphics, it is clocked at around 9.8 pages per minute. This print is actually faster than what HP claims. However, the printing quality was pretty average. In addition, printing graphics resulted to some inconsistent density. Overall, the text quality was clear and sharp but graphic printing could be better.
Scanning quality is also something that we will be looking at. Color images appeared to be a little washed out and inconsistent. Monochrome or grayscale images came out the same way as well. However, this is a problem that most multifunctional devices have. On a final note, the scanning is something that is good for average use and not for detail oriented designs or images.
As for our overall rating, the HP LaserJet 3015 printer with the HP printer cartridge is a great multifunctional device to have, especially if you are concerned with taking up too much space. It is cost effective if you shop online for HP LaserJet 3015 printer toner at reputable laser toner dealers.
