This would be a great time to go and see the Titanic, as it is the hundred year anniversary of the Titanic’s fateful voyage. If you are planning on traveling to Newfoundland, it is important to remember that you are going to need to have a valid US passport. If you do not have a passport, you can also get there with a passport card. Both of these items are easily obtainable through an online passport agency.

Passports

Anyone wishing to do any overseas travel will need to have a valid United States passport. Without a passport you cannot travel internationally for any reason. Also, if you lose your passport while you are abroad, you will need to get a replacement passport before you will be allowed to reenter the country. If you do not have a valid passport, and are traveling somewhere close like Mexico or Canada, you can apply for a passport card. Passport cards are great for people who do not travel very far and are only going to adjacent countries.

Tragedy

When the Titanic was built, it was the largest passenger ship the world had ever seen. People marveled at how large and seemingly indestructible she was. However, just five days into her maiden voyage, the ship collided with an iceberg. This occurred off of the coast of New Foundland in the North Atlantic Ocean. The sinking became known as the worst maritime disaster of all time. It was an unspeakable tragedy.

Finding The Titanic

For years divers and explores were searching thirteen miles off course. But in September of 1985 Robert Ballad followed a trail of debris and eventually located the final resting place for the RMS Titanic. Interestingly enough he was actually working for the US Navy at the time and was given funding in return for locating two sunken submarines. The final resting place for the Titanic is in the North Atlantic Ocean off the coast of New Foundland. At the time of the sinking New Foundland was actually its own country. However, today it is part of Canada. The wreckage was not located until 1986 due to poor communication signals in 1912.

Expeditions

Many surviving artifacts from the Titanic can be found at museums across the world. The Luxor in Las Vegas features the most notable collection. However, for someone more interested the ship itself there are now diving expeditions that allow for an up close and personal view of the Titanic. The deep diving submersibles will give a full view of not only the RMS Titanic, but marine life as well. At depths of 13,000feet bioluminescent creatures are abound.

Diving down to see the Titanic in person would be the adventure of a lifetime for any fan of the sea or history. The Titanic has captivated the hearts and minds of countless people since the fateful night the ship sank into the icy waters of the North Atlantic. If you are interested in seeing the wreckage first hand, you can purchase tickets to dive down with a team and see the ship for yourself. It is important to remember, however, that you will need to have either a US passport or a passport card for your journey.
