What The Dell 1100 Printer Offers

February 17, 2010 by adam · Leave a Comment

The Dell 1100 printer sells for around $85 to $100. It’s a device designed for the average user offering decent text and graphic printing quality with the Dell 1100 toner. The printing speed is 14 pages per minute, which is an average speed for most home printers. If you think 14 pages per minute is too slow, you might as well spend a little more money for faster devices.

The printer weighs around 12 pounds. Size is around the same as with any other home-type printer. The color is the patented white and gray color of Dell. The device’s slight drawback is its paper tray. It remains open, which is very susceptible to dust.

The tray on top of the printer can hold 50 sheets. It also has a control panel that is very easy to use. There is a button for cancelling jobs or feeding the paper. The panel also has two LEDs that will tell you if it is busy or jammed.

In the event the printer is jammed, you can just remove the toner cartridge under the device’s main door. The design made it very easy to remove and to install back in. Unfortunately, the package does not include the USB cable, which is around $30.

Connecting and installing the printer to the computer is very easy. The package comes with a poster that illustrates the steps on how to do it. The printer’s drivers even load automatically. Unfortunately, the Dell 1100 printer only supports Windows. If you are using a Mac or Linux operating system, this is not for you.

The Dell 1100 laser printer can handle 600 x 600 dpi resolution, which is typical for a printer in this class. It has a 150 MHz processor, which is faster when you compare it to other devices under the same price range. However, this device only has a 2 MB RAM, which limits it for personal use. In addition, the small RAM can only handle text, spreadsheets, and grayscale graphics.

The package includes a 1,000-page yield cartridge, which is a bit small compared to other printers. When the toner runs out, you can replace it with a standard black toner cartridge. The standard cartridge can print 2,000 pages. If you do the math, that is about 3.3 cents per page, which is a bit expensive compared to other devices. Other laser printers can print a page for only 2.7 cents or lower.

This Dell printer can accept paper sizes from 3 x 5 inches to 8.5 x 14 inches. It has a printable area of 8 x 11.5 inches or an A4 paper size. It has a duty cycle of 5,000 pages a month, which is just enough for personal use.

The best things about the Dell 1100 printer are the price and speed. In addition, if you have an old printer from them you, can trade it in for this printer. Unfortunately, the memory is not expandable and it has no networking capability. It also has a warranty that is only around 90 days. The toner cartridge than comes with the package is also smaller when you compare it to its competitors. The bottom line is that this printer would be a good companion to inkjet printer or an all-in-one device.

The Dell Laser 1100 toner is a nice partner for this printer.  It offers all the quality one has come to expect from Dell toner, with the exceptional value that can be found from online retailers offering toner.
