Why Delphi Is A Great Vacation Destination

by Bridget on March 9, 2012

Greece is one of the most beautiful countries in the entire world. Every year, thousands of tourists flock to Greece to see all of the wonderful things they have to offer. Of course, if you are going to be doing any international travel, you will need to have a valid United States passport with you. Unlike the past, when children were allowed to travel without a passport, now kids passports are required for anyone who is traveling out of the country.

Passport Needs

Unlike in the past, young children, even babies, are now required to have their own individual United States passports. Years ago, children were permitted to travel internationally with their parents without having to have their own passport. A valid United States passport allows their holder to travel freely from country to country. It also allows for citizens of the United States to reenter America when they are done traveling. It is important that you keep your passport up to date with all of the correct information. A passport is a wonderful document that can let you see the world.

Oracle

The Oracle of Delphi was a place where anyone could come and retrieve answers to their questions. They would present their quandary to the virgins of the well and they would receive their oracle. It was later noted that these virgins were sitting atop a well that gave of some rather gaseous fumes that may have caused some hallucinations. But when it comes to oracles, a drug induced answer is just as good as a sober one.

Hippodrome

In addition to the Temple of Apollo, the Hippodrome, and of course the elusive site where the Pythia gave their oracles. Delphi has a lot of other sites to offer. Crowned an UNESCO World Heritage site, there is also the Altar of the Chians, the Stoa of the Athenians, Sibyl rock, the theatre, and the tholos just to name a few. These structures are truly remarkable to see.

Ancient Myths

The Greeks came up with many wonderful stories and myths throughout their unique history. Many thousands of years ago, the Greeks actually believed that their country was at the very center of the globe. This is where they got the term “belly button of the world” came from. Another funny anecdote that the ancient Greeks used to believe was that the God Apollo actually slayed a dragon in the middle of the Earth.

If you are considering taking a trip overseas with your family, you should consider visiting wonderful Greece. Remember, everyone in your family will need to have their own individual passport. Unlike in the past, kids passports are now required for all young travelers. Greece would be a wonderful place to take your family on vacation. So, grab your passport and get ready for a wonderful family vacation in amazing Greece.
